Overview

Dukes Nose near khandala, India is a huge pinnacle very obvious while traveling between mumbai and pune. It's shape is like a nose or a thumb. The sights from top are unique and magnificent as one sees a vast landscape and the winding mumbai pune expressway cutting through the ghats and trains chugging along the tracks. Dukes Nose trek starts from khandala station itself and a nice 3-4 hour trek takes you to the top where a simple temple exists. Its a famous for rock climbing and valley crossing activites.

Nagphani, later known as Duke’s Nose after Duke Wellington, is a cliff at Khandala near Lonavala. The Cliff is pointed like a snakes pointed head portion (hood) and hence the name Nagphani (Nag means snake and phani means hood). The name Dukes’nose is derived as the cliff looked like the shape of the Duke. This is a marvelous picnic spot nearby Lonavala.

Nagphani (Duke's Nose) appears almost inaccessible, but it is a surprisingly simple trek to reach the summit from the southern approach. The trekker is rewarded with amazing views of the Mumbai-Pune road and rail corridors, as well as great views of Khandala and the surrounding Sahyadri peaks. Duke's Nose is a convenient day trip from either Mumbai or Pune and the trekking route starts also very conviently near the Khandala railway station.
